Weather Rabbit

Like always, BasicGrey is putting out so many FABULOUS collections. But the HEY collections (Hey You, Hey Boy, and Hey Girl) are definitely a recent favorite of mine. The page below features mostly papers and embellishments from the Hey Boy collection.

My son was so proud of his “weather rabbit” at school (decorated in honor of his dad’s job, Broadcast Meteorologist) and was nice enough to pose by it in the lunchroom for me. :) I used my Silhouette Cameo to create the sunburst background, clouds, umbrella and bunny. You just gotta love a sweet little bunny holding an umbrella!

Father’s Day Projects

Hi Friends! Sorry, I’ve disappeared on you the last week or so. I decided to take a blogging break to enjoy the last busy week of school and the first busy week of summer … which means I haven’t been doing much scrapping. I’m sure all of you have been doing the same thing! Yay for Summer!

I do have a few Father’s Day projects that I thought I would share with you today. The first one is a gift set that I put together for BasicGrey using my Silhouette Cameo machine.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_DadTrophy1

For this project I used a mixture of the BasicGrey Hey! Collections. My husband really doesn’t like when we make a fuss over him on holidays/birthdays … if he had it his way, we would all just go about like it was a normal day. And if we do give him any gifts, he prefers the practical and useful kind. Boring, right?! :) Well, just because he likes practical gifts, doesn’t mean that I’m going to wrap it up in a practical way. Hehe! My kids and I still shower him with all kinds of fanfare and this trophy gift bucket will be the perfect way for us to display our affection for him. It’s roomy enough to hold several small gifts and notes, and after he goes through them, it will look great sitting up on the mantel for the remainder of Father’s Day.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_DadTrophy2

I created the base of the trophy with light yellow cardstock using my Cameo and an SVG cut file by SVG Attic (“Day at the Races” set). For the top layer, I used a yellow pattern from the Hey You 12 x 12 Paper Pad. Next, I decorated the front of the trophy with an award created with my die cut machine using more papers from the Hey You collection. I placed a wooden button from the Hey Boy collection with the number one on it in the center of the award. You could even make the award removable so that he has to wear it pinned to his shirt during his Father’s Day dinner!

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_DadTrophy3

For the card I used more of the Hey You papers to cut out a hot air balloon image. I used the Hey Boy Printed Chipboard Alpha letters to spell “Dad” across the top and added a couple of clear blue buttons from the Hey Boy Buttons and Brads as an accent.

This second project is a layout that I have up on the My Mind’s Eye blog today using the Kate & Co. Oxford Lane Collection.

JanaEubank_MyMindsEye_Dad1

SUPPLIES:
Kate & Co.-Oxford Lane: Bold Paper, Triples Paper, Fresh Paper, Enjoy Paper, 6 x 6 Paper Pad,  12 x 12 Sticker Accessories, 12 x 12 Chipboard Accessories, Decorative  Brads, Decorative Tape, Layered Stickers, Stamps
Other: White Cardstock, Teal Spray Ink,  Navy Stamping Ink, Acrylic Block, Black Distress Ink, Scissors, Trimmer, Adhesive, Foam Squares

My husband’s favorite color happens to be white, and so I decided to begin this page with a crisp white background spritzed with a few droplets of teal spray ink. I love how the colors and patterns of this collection look against that white background.  I added horizontal bands of patterned paper across the top and bottom of the page to “frame” it a bit and then added some extra bits to the top for some fun. I used the decorative tape along with a layered sticker, enamel brad and a stamped flower.

JanaEubank_MyMindsEye_Dad2

I adhered the #1 Sticker to a circle punched from a smaller scale patterned paper from the 6 x 6 paper pad and then fussy-cut a few flower sprays as accents. I also stamped a few more flower shapes around this cluster.

JanaEubank_MyMindsEye_Dad3

The journaling is contained on the “Fun” chipboard journal block and accented with more stamping and fussy-cut flowers. It’s been awhile since I’ve done any fussy-cutting and I love the detail and texture it adds to a page.

JanaEubank_MyMindsEye_Dad4

I hope you are having a great summer so far. We are knee deep in swimming lessons, scout camps, popsicles, friends around the firepit, and more. I love making summertime memories! I’ll be back soon with more shares!

Reasons We Love Mom Gift

As a child I always loved sifting through my mom’s purse looking at all of her “treasures.” Her sunglasses, wallet, checkbook, lipstick, candy …it was a magical world of grown-up fun. Grandma’s purse was the same way. Grandma always had a stick of gum to share and usually brought along a roll of Ritz crackers and squeeze cheese for the grandkids. :) So when I was brainstorming about a fun way to package treats for a mom this Mother’s Day, I naturally thought of purses!

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_MomDayPurse1e

I used the BasicGrey Mint Julep collection to cut out this purse on my Silhouette Cameo. Such pretty feminine papers in this collection! The purse file is from SVGAttic and can be found HERE. The flower is included as part of the file. The leaves are from a Christmas set by SVG Cuts. I used one of the Mint Julep stitched brads as the flower center.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_MomDayPurse2e

I accented the purse’s handle with  a border sticker and made a tag out of one of the stickers from the Mint Julep Elements Sticker Sheet.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_MomDayPurse3e

When you open up the purse you will find a pocket containing a little card for mom.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_MomDayPurse4e

I filled the purse with “Riesen” candies (I found these at Dollar Tree) and then wrapped each candy with a strip of pretty patterned paper. On the inside of the patterned paper we wrote all the REASONS we love mom/grandma and why we think she is so SWEET. (Can you tell I love punny gifts?! :)   )

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_MomDayPurse5e

This gift would be so fun to give mom or grandma … or even a close girlfriend any time during the year!

AlbumKitWinner

CONGRATULATIONS, Karen! I will be contacting you through the email you left along with your comment to find out what Album Kit you would like.

………………………………………….

Did you get a chance to check out all of the National Scrapbook Day happenings yesterday on the BasicGrey Blog? Very inspiring! All day long layouts and challenges were posted for a chance to win PRIZES! If you would like to participate there is still time! You can submit your entries to the challenges until this coming Friday, May 10th.

I thought I would share with you the page I created for my challenge . . . using non-holiday themed paper to document a holiday. I used the Mint Julep collection to create a patriotic-looking Memorial Day page. Don’t these papers just remind you of a summertime picnic quilt?!

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_MemorialDay1

I wanted to keep the color scheme in the red/white/blue range, so I simply trimmed off the kraft border from the journal spot. For a pop of color, I added the yellow patterned garland. Each circle of the garland is backed with a punched red or blue cardstock circle to help it stand out from the patterned background papers. I also added a few stitched brads for dimension.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_MemorialDay2

For the title, I trimmed the inner portion from the journal sticker found on the Elements Stickers sheet. I backed this with a piece of cream cardstock that I embossed with a dot pattern. I added the floral sticker to the left side and then used the blue Printed Chipboard Alpha letters and red letter stickers to build my title.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_MemorialDay3

I hope you’ll stop by the BasicGrey Blog to see everything the team created. I guarantee you will leave with an itch to scrap! ;)

Thanks for coming by!

For my project, I worked with the Accents Set to create a layered flower for my page.

Accents

This page features two photos: the photo on the right is a picture of me in my princess Halloween costume, and the photo on the left is my daughter wearing that same costume as a dress-up. I wanted my page to have a soft, princess-y feel and the large, layered flower was the perfect way to add lots of girly drama.

JanaEubank_Nostalgic1

I used the two flower shapes from the Accents set to create this flower. I traced and cut out one five-petal flower, and two six-petal flowers. I inked the edges and then used my fingers to bend the petals upward. For the six-petal layers, I wanted a bit more curl, so I drew a score line down the center of each petal and folded them upwards again.

JanaEubank_Nostalgic3Detail

For more drama, I added a vellum die cut (BasicGrey) and a punched pinked-edge circle. Finally, I added a soft blue button for the flower center.

BasicGrey Knee Highs & Bow Ties

***Please scroll down or CLICK HERE for the BasicGrey Album Kit Giveaway***

This is one of those BasicGrey collections that I can use for EVERYTHING … LOVE it! Especially with Summer coming and all of it’s happy bright, popsicle colors and happy icons.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_ThinkHappy1b

Vellum sticker accents … SWOON! Love the little hearts and patterned strips!

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_ThinkHappy2b

I even added some to the corners of the smallest photo. Gotta love the waythat the color black POPS against these fun papers. Love it!

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_ThinkHappy3b

Occasionally, I won’t add an official “title” to a page (like this one) … and it ends up feeling like it’s missing something. Hmmmm. Maybe I need to go back in and add a title across the top.

What about you? What do you like to add to your pages to make it feel more “complete?”

Happy Scrapping!

Another BasicGrey Hipster Layout … YO!

It’s the start of another week and today I thought I would share with you another page I created for CHA using the BasicGrey Hipster collection. (I know CHA was a long time ago … I can’t believe I haven’t shared these with you yet!) I have this silly picture of my son sitting with a frog statue outside a restaurant, and thought it would be so funny to go with the “Yo!” caption die cut. It must have come off as tooo corny though, because my photo was replaced with another one for the show. LOL! That’s fine by me … I understand the need to appeal to a wide range of folks and this photo may have come off as a little odd. *wink*

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_Yo1b

I layered the file folders together above the photo with a decorative brad and metal clip.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_Yo2b

Here is a closer look at the clustered die cuts, wood pieces, and chipboard elements for the title.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_Yo3b

Along the bottom portion of the layout I used my Silhouette to cut triangles from the base paper. I then backed each triangle opening with different patterned papers and accented them with brads and vellum stickers. I LOOOOVE those vellum stickers! They gotta be my favorite thing BasicGrey makes right now. I use them on everything. If you haven’t tried them yet … you NEED to! They are so fun!

Playing with the BasicGrey Mint Julep Collection

The BasicGrey Mint Julep collection reminds me of picnics, quilts, and warm spring afternoons. This week I shared a page on the BasicGrey blog using this collection and gave a few quick tips on journaling. You can check that post out HERE.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_GpaGma1

I used the pretty Vintage Buttons and Decorative Brads to accent the garland across the top of the page. Then I used a page from the Snippets to add the basic information to my page (Who, What, When). The title words (Grandpa and Gramma) were cut using my Silhouette Cameo machine. The ampersand is from the Mint Julep Element Sticker Sheet.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_GpaGma2a

Behind the photo with the yellow fabric frame sticker you will find a card with a tab. It’s the perfect way to add a longer story to your page.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_GpaGma4

Here is another page I created for CHA using the Mint Julep Collection.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_Beautiful1b

A border sticker with more of those delicious floral brads! I also seem to have a thing for the printed die cuts, snippets, and chipboard pieces that come with each collection. So cute!

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_Beautiful2b

I used the large frame from the fabric stickers to frame my daughter’s photo and then embellished the lower corner.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_Beautiful3b

I have one more Mint Julep page in the works that I hope to share with you soon!

Thanks for coming by today!

BasicGrey Hipster Pages

I pulled out my BasicGrey Hipster collection the other day and created a few pages with it. Orange, brown, and aqua have always captured my heart and are perfect for boy pages.

FEDORA-ble

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_FedoraBle1

My Owen fell in love with the cartoon “Top Cat” a few years back. We were clothes shopping at The Children’s Place one day when he spotted a fedora hat. It was the last one in the store and was too small for him, but he HAD to have it! He loved that hat and wore it everywhere. He now has a larger hat that actually fits him, but THIS hat was the one that started his obsession with wearing fedoras. :)

Do you keep an inspiration book … maybe in a Smash Book or composition journal? I guess Pinterest has kind of taken the place of inspiration journals … but I still like to clip pictures from magazines that inspire me. For this page, I used the following picture to inspire the design. I had originally clipped it out for the colors, … but as I was flipping through my book the angled strips caught my attention this time around and I recreated them on this page.

ROCK ON

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_RockOn1

Southern Utah is filled with beautiful orange rock formations. These pictures were taken at Arches National Park near Moab, Utah and the BasicGrey Hipster collection worked perfectly in scrapping these fun photos of my kids.

Thanks for stopping by to take a peek at my work today. Have a great week!

Using a Card Sketch to Inspire a Layout Design

Yesterday on the BasicGrey Blog my assignment was to use an awesome card sketch by Susan Stringfellow to inspire a layout design. I hadn’t done this in awhile and had so much fun with it! Here is Susan’s sketch I worked from.

13-Feb-BasicGrey-Card-Sket

And here is the resulting page using the BasicGrey True Love collection. You can see that I followed the sketch pretty closely, but expanded it a bit to fit a 12 x 12 format.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_Valentine1

SUPPLIES: BasicGrey True Love Collection: True Love Proposal Paper, True Love Secret Admirer Paper, True Love Little Things Paper, True Love Love’s Garden Paper, True Love Giddy Paper, True Love Kissing Tree Paper, True Love Bottle Cap Stickers, True Love Snippets, True Love Die Cuts & Transparencies, True Love Chipboard Shapes Other: Photo Corners, Silver Mini Brads, Cream Ribbon, Black Journaling Pen, Distress Ink, Adhesives, Trimmer, Scissors

I grouped my photos together in one large rectangle, just like the large rectangle in the center of the sketch. For my background I replaced the strip on the right hand side with a series of patterned paper strips stacked on top of each other. This is a great way to use up paper scraps!

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_Valentine2

The heart in the sketch really caught my attention and I decided to replicate it on my layout as a page accent. I stacked two chipboard hearts together and then used a chipboard tag, a bottlecap sticker, and a design trimmed from the Snippets to recreate the row of notched paper strips.

JanaEubank_BasicGrey_Valentine3

BasicGrey design team member, Waleska Neris, also created a layout from Susan’s sketch. Come see her take on it! I love what she made. :)

Have a great day!
