Welcome to the Hazel & Ruby / Michaels-Arts & Crafts Reveal Party and Blog Hop!
All month long, we have been celebrating our little secret….
Michael’s is now carrying our entire line of Stencil-Masks, Wrap It Up Paper, & Pass the Tissue Paper! Now, it’s super easy to hop on over to your local store and pick up our amazing products. We have made DIY easy and fun for everyone!
To celebrate handmade, we have gathered together some amazingly talented bloggers whose passion is to create, make and share every day. Some of these ladies will be regular contributors as part of Hazel & Ruby’s Makery team, so you will see a lot more from them in the future. Each one will share project inspiration, product tips and how-to’s to teach and inspire. We are so excited to introduce you to each one of them and get ready to be awed!
For the next 2 days, you can hop around to each of their blogs, stopping by to say Hi and Hello! Everyone is super excited to share their project ideas with you and how they were DIY inspired.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Welcome Friends! I’m so happy to have you join me here on my blog and I hope you leave feeling inspired. A big thank you to Hazel & Ruby for inviting me to play along on this wonderful blog hop! We love holidays here at our house. As we approach summer, I thought it would be the perfect time to create a patriotic decoration that I could hang on my door for Memorial Day and leave up through the 4th of July.
AMERICA
For the base of my project, I used the Surface to Repurpose – Fat Heart. I used a piece of sandpaper to smooth out the edges a bit and then adhered the Pass the Tissue tissue paper in Quote Collage. Next, I adhered several red polka dot tissue paper strips (Pass the Tissue – Candy Apple/White Polka Dot) for the flag’s stripes. I crinkled them a bit before gluing them down for some fun texture.
In the upper left corner, I used the stars from the Everyday Shapes Stencil/Mask, moving them around as I added paint to be sure I got a few stars in all of the areas. Once this step was completed I swiped a bit of watered-down, white acrylic paint here-and-there, and sprinkled my project with clear glitter in a few spots for a shabby chic feel.
Next, I wanted to create a vintage inspired grouping in the lower corner of the block of stars. I adhered two of the Oh So Sky Sequin Flowers on top of each other. I found some free vintage Americana clip art online HERE. I printed them out to fit the small square Pic Pockets (On Trend and Too Cool) and then adhered them next to the flowers. White sequins, from the Shine & Sparkle Sequin Tubes, sprinkled above and below add even more fun sparkle.
At the bottom of my project, I created a banner using cream cardstock, the Blindside Alpha Stencil/Mask, and brown walnut spray ink. The letters are outlined with a black journaling pen to help them stand out a bit more.
It’s now ready to add to my decor! I can’t wait!
What type of decorations have you made to add to your summer decor?
Love this heart !! I do the something, when I decorate my mantel. Usually try to get it up by Armed Forces Day, but didn’t make it this year. Thanks for sharing.

Oh I love this Jana! Your so clever with the Hazel and Ruby tissue paper! I actually made something a little bit similar to yours for this Memorial Day and 4th of July this year–I cut a cardboard heart then covered it with different patriotic ribbons and then glued it to a white 8×8″ canvas frame. Thanks so much for all of your fabulous inspiration!
