This week, in the spirit of stashbusting, I have added a few stash items to my page created with this month’s Noel Mignon Trailblazer Classic Kit. Our design team challenge on the blog this week is called the “Dot-to-Dot” challenge, where we are to use circular elements on our page somewhere.
WITH HIS OWN TWO HANDS
Last year, my son had the time of his life on a back-country hike with his scout troop. He had purchased a fishing license for the year and was excited to “live off the land” and catch his dinner from the stream. However, the fish must not have been used to having people around because they ended up being easier to catch by hand. My son would just reach down into the stream and grab them! He had a blast and I was thankful when one of his leaders sent me this photo to remember the weekend.
I used a piece of cardstock as my background and then built up a grid design on top using the patterned papers from the kit. The top half of my page is devoted to the photo, title, and journaling, … while the bottom half is reserved for embellishing.
The circle journal spot with the title were both pulled from my stash. The circle is by Jenni Bowlin and the brown chipboard letters are from one of Heidi Swapp’s first releases. They are still a classic in my book and work perfectly here paired with the October Afternoon letter stickers from the kit to create my title! I added a few wood dots from the kit to the right of the title to repeat the “fish bubbles” happening on the lower half of the page.
Below the title, I added the journaling and a few hand-cut Pretty Little Studio flags from the kit.
My favorite part of this page was embellishing the bottom!
I cut several strips of patterned paper into pennants and layered them together on the left. I added enamel brads to the tops of a few of them for more fun.
To the right of the pennants, I created a block with three fish cut with my Silhouette Cameo machine (image by Lettering Delights). The wood dots from the kit make the perfect little fish bubbles and are so cute with the other “wood” patterned elements happening on the page!

This page was a lot of fun to make! I really love adding circular elements to a page to break up all of the straight lines. Often times, when I’m feeling stuck on a project, I take another look and see if I can add something circular. It softens things a bit and is often the perfect solution to a page design.
Hope you are having a great week! See you again soon!
