Echo Park Paper: Summer Party Page

I love a good, juicy summer collection … one that practically begs you to don a swimsuit and run through the sprinklers in the backyard! This year, the Summer Party collection by Echo Park Paper has got me wanting to do just that! Have you seen it yet?! It’s adorable!

I know a lot of us do our scrappy shopping online these days since (sadly) most of our local scrapbook stores are no longer in existence … but don’t you miss seeing the papers in person before buying them?! Yeah, me too!

I thought it might be fun (and useful) to take you on a little video tour of this collection. It’s not as good as seeing the products in real life, of course, but maybe, just maybe, it will be close enough to help bring that joyful feeling of thumbing through the paper racks. Enjoy!

ECHO PARK PAPER SUMMER PARTY COLLECTION

See?! I told you it was fun! On Monday, I posted a 3D sandcastle box made with this collection, and today I have a scrapbook page to share with you!

SUMMER PARTY

I mentioned it the other day, and I’ll say it again … I’m totally loving the yellow patterns in this collection! I used them as the main color on my 3d sandcastle, and today I’m using the Flip Flops paper as my background.

These are some casual backyard photos that I took of my girls a few years ago. They had just finished Field Day at school and decided to come home and celebrate that summer was just a few days away.

The chipboard elements have got to be my favorite embellishment from each of the collections that Echo Park Paper does … I just love the dimension they add to a page! I often find myself sprinkling them in as many places as I can!

Here I used the “Summer Party” letters, the kite, the popsicles, and a couple of the phrase blocks. I make it a point to keep similar elements in a visual triangle on a page, so that the layout feels balanced.

When I have multiple photos for an event, I like to print them out small, so I can fit more of them on the page. Here, I printed each of the photos as a 3×4″ size and then knocked off a quarter of inch on the short side to make them 2.75″ wide.

I used THIS SKETCH by Laura Whitaker as a springboard for my design. I placed my photos in a row and added a large circle element behind them like the sketch, but then took it in my own direction with a few more layers, border strips anchoring the photos, and altering the placement of the title and journaling. I love the result! (Thank you to Laura Whitaker for always inspiring me to get going on a project! LOVE her sketches!!!)

  1. I just got back from a week at the beach and really enjoyed watching your video. Those Echo Park papers are beautiful! Time to place an order for summer scrapping. I always get a little sad this time of year-still missing Two Peas in a Bucket. Your layout is bright and beautiful! Enjoy the summer with your children.
