Queen & Co: Baptism Dress

Creating a Soft Tone-on-Tone Textured Look with Flowers

For today’s page, I wanted to use a simple and soft color palette. To keep it from feeling boring, I added in lots of texture with tone-on-tone floral embellishments by Queen & Company.

This page has a monochromatic feel about it, but when you take another look you realize that there is actually quite a bit of color. The colors are softened by all of the white embellishments layered on top of the patterned papers.

At the top of the photos I placed a cluster of Simple Stories Faith stickers anchored by two white doilies. The white Pom flower mimics the softness of the doilies, but the clear Sunflower and white Sparklers, keep things interesting and dimensional.

Next to the title is a large, fussy-cut floral paper piece that I cut from one of the 4×6 Horizontal Cards. I added dimension to the big flower with a button, and red Iridescent Pearls … placing the embellishments right on top of the printed design.

Around the floral piece, I added several white floral embellishments. This helps to make the flowers the focal point for the page and gives this area lots of interest. The white Pom Flowers again give softness, while the white Sparklers and clear Sunflowers give dimension and reflect the light.

Silver Skinny Glitter Tape at the top and bottom of the photo strip catch your eye, leading it through the page from the title and journaling on the left side over to the photos on the right side.

By using tone-on-tone white embellishments throughout the design of this page we are giving the eye a reason to linger. The colors blend with one another, but the varied textures make us pause and take in the details.
Why not give this approach a try on your next page? Use embellishments to give your pre-printed page elements more dimension, and then add more pieces to keep your eye lingering on the textured details.
