Today I am up on the American Crafts blog sharing a fun technique for creating a page background using washi tape! The new DIY Shop collection includes the fun foiled tape rolls pictured below. The background of each of these tapes is a light kraft color with silver, gold, or copper foil patterns. They are just DREAMY!

I love the shine of the foil on these tapes and decided to use them to create a shimmery background for this layout of my kids playing with fireflies for the first time on a summer vacation five years ago.

After creating the background, I arranged the photos on top and then used several firefly themed elements from the One Canoe Two Twilight collection to fill in around them.
I used American Crafts’ Moxy Extra Fine Gold Glitter to add gold glitter accents to the wood veneer fireflies in the upper right corner of the page.

In the lower left corner of the page I added the jar and firefly die cut from the Twilight Ephemera pack. A smaller wood veneer shape accents the jar, repeating the wood material from the fireflies at the top of the page.

Finally, I fussy cut several blue flowers from a One Canoe Two Creekside patterned paper to fill in the spaces and add an outdoorsy feeling to this page.

I LOVE how this page came together! The foil tapes in the background were so much fun to use and helped to make this magical memory feel special!
Have you tried creating a background using tapes yet?

SImply lovely! Your background and embellishments are just wonderful!!

Thank you! It was fun to focus on sparkly bits for this one! I need to remember to add glitter and foil to my projects more often! 😀
