May PageMaps Layout: Meteor 2009

Yay! The May PageMaps are out! Here is the page I created this month about a meteor that flew over our home back in 2009.

I was working late into the night doing a little scrapbooking. My husband was downstairs doing work in his office. All of a sudden my husband yelled to me, “Jana! Did you see that?! Did you see that?!”

I had my back to the window, but my husband saw the meteor light up the sky as it passed. We looked it up on our security camera, and these are the second by second shots it took. Pretty amazing!

I used the Echo Park Paper Imagine That Boy collection papers for this page … along with a few goodies from my stash.  Isn’t that background paper AWESOME! … The Galaxy Quest paper makes the perfect night sky for my comet!

The comet cut file is from the Out of This World cut set by Lettering Delights. The yellow puffy star stickers are by Bella Blvd.

I combined two older alphabets together for the title work on this page. The blue letters are a SUPER OLD set of American Crafts Thickers called Shoebox. The transparent white acetate letters are by Heidi Swapp. I used my mini stapler to attach each of the acetate letters to the page … where the stapler wouldn’t reach, I just stapled the letters before adhering them to the page with liquid adhesive.

I used the Imagine That Boy Decorative Brads and more Bella Blvd. Puffy Stars to accent this phrase.

I wasn’t sure if the sequence of the photos would make sense, so I used the numbers from the Fancy Pants Take Note stamps to add a little number label in the corner of each photo.

I finished off the page with cluster of the Imagine That Boy Stickers in the lower right corner.

Studio 5: FREEBIE Valentine’s Day Door Hanger Cut File

Today I have something really fun to share! I was invited on Studio 5 with Brooke Walker (a local lifestyle television show) to present a variety of Valentine’s Day papercrafting ideas. I have been playing in a sea of pink and red and wanted to share those creations with you today!

First, here is a quick look at all of the projects!

One of my favorite Valentine’s Day traditions from when I was a girl was when we would make sugar cookies and then take them around the neighborhood, doorbell ditching each home and leaving the sweet treat on their doorstep.

I am determined to bring this fun tradition back! So I created a Valentine’s Day Door Hanger Cut File to share with all of YOU!

This box is about 1″ deep, allowing you to put in a couple of sugar cookies (I placed mine in a cellophane bag tied with a ribbon) or another treat of your choice!

The file includes decorative panels to decorate the box, as well as this adorable stacked heart embellishment for the front. I stitched the hearts together and then fluffed up each layer to give it some dimension. (You could also staple the hearts together if you don’t happen to own a sewing machine.)

There is also a cute, scalloped tag, a place to write a greeting on the back of the door hanger, and the word “LOVE” (hand-lettered by yours truly) included with the cut file!

American Crafts: Santa Tracker Globe

Christmas is such a magical time of year. One of my favorite memories of when my children were young was the excitement they had of hopping on the computer and tracking Santa’s whereabouts on the night of Christmas Eve. The anticipation was palpable! Well, now you can incorporate the fun of tracking Santa into your home decor with the One Canoe Two Santa Tracker Globe by American Crafts.

The Santa Tracker globe includes a Santa sleigh wood piece with a magnet on the back and several adhesive magnetic dot stickers to adhere to the surface of your globe.

I did not want the magnetic dots to show, so I opted to purchase thicker magnets and hot glue them to the inside of the globe. The stronger magnets penetrate the thickness of the globe wall and allow you to place the Santa sleigh piece in the places you have a magnet adhered to the inside.

I used the shiny, gold foil star stickers from the Shimelle Sticker Book to mark the location of the magnets on the surface of the globe. The stars add a festive flair to this fun decor piece!

Next, I added die cut poinsettia flowers (Lettering Delights) and greenery to the globe using American Crafts Textured cardstock. (Pine Branches created with the Stampin’ Up Pretty Pines Thinlit Die Set; Branches created using the Echo Park Be Merry Branch Die Set) I also added a ribbon tied in a knot around the base of the globe.

I can’t wait to add this globe to my Christmas decor! And I know my kids will have fun tracking Santa until the big day arrives.

Queen & Co: Hello Cutie Layout

My first Queen & Co. project is up on the Queen & Co. Blog! With three daughters in my home, I knew the Queen & Co. Heart Throb kit would be the perfect fit for creating something about my girls.

I selected these photos of my daughter on her birthday last year and used her shirt as inspiration for my title. I used the acrylic “hello” script word from the kit along with letters I cut (using the ZP Periwinkle font by Lettering Delights) from glitter paper using my electronic die cut machine.

I cut the 6×6 papers into strips and then adhered them to the page side by side, disguising the seams behind my photos. The horizontal bands help give the photos a place to “rest.”

I typed my journaling on a journal card that I pulled from my stash. Here is a closer look at what it says.

My favorite part of this page is at the bottom where I had fun playing with the shaker elements of the kit. I die cut the bottom heart from pink cardstock (border) and the blue/white striped paper (insert) from the 6×6 Heart Throb paper pad.

Next, I created a dimensional shaker heart, using the gray floral paper for the background, and pink glitter paper for the border. Inside I added the large pink sequins, small white sequins, the dark pink heart toppings, the blue floral toppings, and a sprinkle of the new diamond topping. You always need to add a little sparkle and shine to a girl’s page, right?!

I added the “Love You Forever” sentiment sticker across the top of the heart with foam squares. The page is finished off with a sprinkling of heart sequins and enamel dots around the hearts and title. So cute!
