Scrapbooking with a Sketch & the Simple Stories Full Bloom collection!

Raise your hand if you like scrapbooking sketches! I created the following sketch as a challenge for the Simple Stories GET CREATIVE! Retreat group. Each month leading up to the September Retreat we issue a challenge to help attendees ‘Get Creative!’ Would you like to give this sketch a try?

We kick off each month with a live stream. As a part of the livestream, I use the challenge to create my own project … LIVE! This time I used the Full Bloom collection. Here is the layout I made!

I love the happy colors of the Full Bloom collection … I could scrapbook with these colors forever!

And who doesn’t love adding a cheerful sun , puffy clouds, butterflies and bees to a page?!

I used the Cream Grid paper for my journal spot, then build a title with the Foam Stickers (my favorite!).

Decorative Brads and Enamel Dots are a MUST as well!

Thanks for taking a look!

The chevrons totally remind me of the tread on a bike tire … perfect for this page of my son and his bike.

I embossed the red cardstock piece using my Cuttlebug machine and a Cuttlebug folder called Relly Rave (sorry, I was unable to find a link on the Cricut.com site).

Scraptastic Sketch & Page

This month it was my turn to create the sketch for Scraptastic Club’s Sketchy Thursday Challenge. I thought I would also share it here on my blog along with my page, and if you’d like to play along for a chance at winning the prize, be sure to link up your photos on the appropriate post on the Scraptastic Blog HERE.

Here is the sketch I made.

And here is the coordinating page I created using elements mostly from the April 2013 Awake My Soul Add-On Kit. I hand cut the doilies and ticket-shaped blocks from the Teresa Collins papers included in the kit and clustered them around my column of photos. I love the way it came together.

I hope you’ll come play along with us! Have a great weekend!

Using a Card Sketch to Inspire a Layout Design

Yesterday on the BasicGrey Blog my assignment was to use an awesome card sketch by Susan Stringfellow to inspire a layout design. I hadn’t done this in awhile and had so much fun with it! Here is Susan’s sketch I worked from.

And here is the resulting page using the BasicGrey True Love collection. You can see that I followed the sketch pretty closely, but expanded it a bit to fit a 12 x 12 format.

SUPPLIES: BasicGrey True Love Collection: True Love Proposal Paper, True Love Secret Admirer Paper, True Love Little Things Paper, True Love Love’s Garden Paper, True Love Giddy Paper, True Love Kissing Tree Paper, True Love Bottle Cap Stickers, True Love Snippets, True Love Die Cuts & Transparencies, True Love Chipboard Shapes Other: Photo Corners, Silver Mini Brads, Cream Ribbon, Black Journaling Pen, Distress Ink, Adhesives, Trimmer, Scissors

I grouped my photos together in one large rectangle, just like the large rectangle in the center of the sketch. For my background I replaced the strip on the right hand side with a series of patterned paper strips stacked on top of each other. This is a great way to use up paper scraps!

The heart in the sketch really caught my attention and I decided to replicate it on my layout as a page accent. I stacked two chipboard hearts together and then used a chipboard tag, a bottlecap sticker, and a design trimmed from the Snippets to recreate the row of notched paper strips.

BasicGrey design team member, Waleska Neris, also created a layout from Susan’s sketch. Come see her take on it! I love what she made. 🙂

Have a great day!
