December Challenge at My Mind’s Eye

Every month My Mind’s Eye has a Layout Sketch Challenge and a Card Sketch Challenge and this month it was my turn to contribute a sample. I always love working with sketches! It’s such a great creative release to have the basic design decided for your project already, so you can just have FUN playing with all the bits and baubles us scrappers like to collect. 😀 Here is the page and card that I created. If you would like to play along, you can link your creation up to the Layout Challenge HERE and the Card Challenge HERE.

REMEMBER WHEN

I love all things “Lost & Found” and love the happy colors of the Lost & Found Two Rosy collection. They were perfect to scrap an end-of-summer lunch date with my kids to one of my favorite restaurants, The Garden at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City, Utah. My kids had never been there before, and loved that we could have a “fancy” lunch overlooking the beautiful Temple Grounds. They loved that the roof of the restaurant was opened up to the warm summer air, and took turns making wishes with pennies in the fountains inside the restaurant. Afterwards, we browsed the beautiful rooms in the building. They had a display set up in the lobby telling about the history of the hotel with old-fashioned cars and clothing. It was fascinating to learn about all the famous people that had once visited the building when it used to be the Hotel Utah. The volunteers in the building were all wearing old-fashioned hats and it felt like we had taken a step back in time into a different era. It was a great end-of summer outing!

For the scalloped borders, title, and doilies, I used my Cricut Expression 2 Electronic Cutting Machine. The scalloped borders are from the Ribbons & Rosettes cartridge. The doilies are from the Cricut Circle Exclusive cartridge, Paper Trimmings, and the title letters and “Remember When” phrase is from the Sophisticated cartridge. The word “The” comes from the Art Nouveau cartridge. If you would like the Cricut Craft Room file for this scrapbook page, you can DOWNLOAD IT HERE. Or if you would prefer to work with a Gypsy file, you can DOWNLOAD THE GYPSY FILE HERE. You can cut the same shapes (if you own the cartridges I used), by importing them into the Free Online Design Tool by Provo Craft called Cricut Craft Room. LOOOVE this new program! It makes it so fun to share files with other people! If you haven’t already, be sure to watch the videos telling about this program. They are WONDERFUL and you will see just how COOL this program is. 😀

The Lost and Found Two collections not only have beautiful papers, embellishments, and die cuts . . . but they have STAMPS, too! Remember I have been trying to add stamping to my pages more lately? Well, this time around I added a bit of stamping on the title block (bird and year stamp), as well as a butterfly here-and-there around the page. I used brown ink to coordinate with the Walnut Ink I spritzed on the background paper.

.

The staggered circles on the sketch for the December My Mind’s Eye Card Challenge reminded me of ornaments staggered on a Christmas tree . . . can you tell I’ve been working on getting my house decorated? . . . so I decided to roll with that and add a tree to my card. I used the super happy and fun 12 Days of Christmas collection by My Mind’s Eye. The colors in this collection just make me smile! Don’t they remind you of the bright, happy gift wrap papers used by Santa’s elves. LOVE! I used the 12 Days of Christmas stamps for the sentiment and the decorative brads and decorative trims to decorate the tree. The snowflakes were made using a McGill punch and adorned with 12 Days of Christmas gems. All papers are from teh 6 x 6 paper pad for this collection

Well, I’m off to do some Christmas shopping this morning, but I will be back again soon with more scrappy projects to share.

See you again soon!

Jana
